Surge arrester is the basis of insulation co-ordination for power equipment. It is used for limiting over voltage. SEPW has SiC valve type arresters and metal-oxide surge arresters(MOA). switching spark gaps are characterized by a very steep current rise during breakdown. Making use of this effect , steep voltage or current pulses of a few microseconds duration can be generated because of the switching time below 50 nanoseconds and the exceptionally high peak current.
